Bob Kushell is stepping down from his leadership role on The Muppets, after co-creating and executive producing the ABC series. Kristin Newman is rumored to be his replacement.
The Muppets has struggled since its premiere both against lukewarm reviews and against boycotts led by One Million Moms and Parents Television Council.
ABC recently extended its order for Muppets from thirteen episodes to sixteen, the last six of which are to air in the spring. These late-season episodes will likely signal a drastic content shift for the series, which has seen its viewership slip from 9.01 million in September to 4.33 million at the end of October.
