In celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of Star Trek this year, the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum is working to preserve the original USS Enterprise model, which was used for long shots in all seventy-nine episodes of the original series.
Bill George and John Goodson of Lucasfilm and Kim Smith of Creature Art & Mechanics Digital are leading this effort as members of the expert advisory committee for the project. Mr George won an Academy Award for his visual effects work on the 1987 film Innerspace.
The preserved USS Enterprise model will be on display at the Boeing Milestones of Flight Hall later this year.
How long does it take to watch every episode of Star Trek?
